Building an Online Store for a Flower and Gifting Business

Flower Forest

Flower Forest home page with a hero banner of bouquets, product category navigation and a search bar

Project overview

Flower Forest is the online storefront of a flower and gifting business. It presents bouquets, cut flowers, gift packs, cakes, bridal bouquets, funeral wreaths and vehicle surprise packages, and lets customers browse the catalogue and start an order through WhatsApp.

Business problem

A flower business sells very different kinds of products to customers with different needs, from celebrations to funerals. The website has to make each category easy to find, show products clearly, and be discoverable when people search for them.

My role and contribution

I worked on the website's development and enhancement: how products and categories are organised and presented, the SEO-friendly category structure, product copy and metadata, image optimization and improvements to the customer-facing shopping experience.

Technology stack

Frontend
Next.js 14 (App Router)ReactTypeScriptTailwind CSS

Implementation approach

The catalogue is organised into clear categories, each with its own page, so customers and search engines can reach products through a logical structure.

Software choices follow the business: product imagery is optimised because it drives purchase decisions, and each product and category carries descriptive text and metadata.

Engineering challenges and solutions

  1. 01

A varied catalogue needs to feel organised rather than overwhelming.

Solution: Organised products into clear categories and improved how products are presented.

  2. 02

Customers search for specific gifts and occasions, not for the shop itself.

Solution: Built an SEO-friendly category structure with product descriptions and metadata.

  3. 03

Photography-heavy pages can be slow, especially on mobile connections.

Solution: Optimised product images for faster loading.
